Work In Progress April

Here's the fun I had using this month's Work In Progress Kit. Thanks for stopping by!

I absolutely destroyed the green Jillibean letters. by accident...so I ended up ripping off the tops and spray painting them black.

I should have photographed this one instead of scanning. The pinwheels are really dimensional the scan got wonky. This layout looks WAY better in person. My favorite of the four.

How often do you get to do a layout of your 6 year old in a gas mask? Some things must be scrapped whether they are pretty or not.

I'm not posting my fourth layout because I don't really like it. I kinda figure it's my blog, my party. I can lie about my age here too if I want. :)

Sketches on Tuesday - Sketch #3

I'm back with another new sketch of an older page today. I can't share any of the new work I've made, waiting for a few magazine and books calls to go out before I can share. Everyone always has lots of photos, so I thought another 2 pager might be helpful.
Here is Sketch #3
And here is my page:

I'll be back on Wednesday with my April Work In Progress Pages. The main kit is already sold out but you can still get the project kit.

Back and beat.

WOW. Three days at a Scrapbook Expo can really take the toll. Chasity and I drove to Columbus Thursday morning in a 16' truck filled to the brim with 6 pallets of 3Birds products only to return late Saturday night in a very empty a6' truck. We sold all but a few kits while we were there. Total success. We had fun, met lots of people and worked our butts off. I even got to meet Jill from Jillibean and Lori Slawinski who is on the in house design team with me. So glad to be home - I am way sore today.

Sketches on Tuesday - Sketch #2

So maybe I was a little wishful thinking about the whole Spring thing. It is freezing here today in good old Cleveland.Max's first high school scrimmage was cancelled due to rain. Boo. At least it isn't snow...

In honor of the cold weather hanging around here for a little longer, today's sketch is based on a favorite layout of mine called "Happy Hat Boy".
I'm hoping someone will take this sketch and turn it into a pretty Spring layout. Maybe that will send some good weather karma here to the North coast.

Anyone going to the Memories Expo in Columbus this weekend? I'll be working at the 3Birds booth #217-219. Make sure to stop by and say hello!

3.18.2010

not much to say today...

so I'll share some pages instead! I made both of these for the Lily Bee Design Team tryout. I love the first layout (a scraplift of myself!).  The navy mixed with the yellow was such a fun color combo. I misted the lace doily with sapphire and tattered leather glimmer mist. The second layout is sorta cute, not one of my favorites. Sadly, I didn't make the team. Boo. Not the first time and certainly not the last time I won't make a team I want. It's really all just fun and I try not to let stuff like that get me down. Like my friend Jen says, "It's just paper and glue people!"

If you have been over to TwoPeas this week, you will see that I released my next two kits at the store.

Have a great day. See you back here tomorrow for Free Friday!

Work In Progress April

Can you believe I just wrote April in the title?!? This year is going by so amazingly fast. I really need it to slow down just a little so I can appreciate how awesome it truly has been thus far. Lots of fun stuff going on here at the Lamb household. Max has started his first year of High School baseball. He has been waiting and waiting for this to finally arrive.I cannot wait to see his dedication, training and tremendous effort pay off this first season. When we start talking baseball, that means Spring is finally peaking around the corner.

I have been busy making layouts with the new Work In Progress Kit. So much green and so Spring! I got a mix of all three kits, my favorite part is the little mix of purple thrown in for fun.I can't wait to share my layouts with you on the 1st.

Sketches on Tuesday - Sketch #1

I have been trying to find new ideas and topics to make this blog more interesting. I thought it would be fun to start a regular "sketch" day here at Life on the Lamb. I'll do my best to post a new one each and every Tuesday. Some sketches will be based on older layouts of mine, but some will be new layouts as well. I will also try to include as many two- pagers as possible! You should be able to right click the sketch and save or print to your hard drive.

I would love to hear your feedback! Are these helpful? Do you want to see more? If you use the sketch, be sure to give credit if you upload your design to an online gallery. -And make sure to share with me! I would love to see what you create! :)

Free Friday #5

Hello Friday! I thought you would never get here. It's been a long week. I put another huge dent in our van yesterday. The $1400 dollar kind of dent. When I took it to the body shop in the afternoon for an estimate, the guy said, "Weren't you just in here with this car?" ummm...thanks Mister. Know any good marriage counselors? Just kidding. The hubbie actually took this one quite well compared to the last one.

In honor of St. Pat's day next week, I made a little clover and welded words file for you. I think it would be so cute mixed with the rainbows from my Sunshine Kit at Two Peas.

Have a great weekend. Next week I'll have some new pages to share and introducing "Sketches on Tuesday".

Mosh Posh March

Today I get to share my pages from the March Mosh Posh kit. Hurry over if you haven't gotten one yet...it's full of beautiful Spring color.

I used my Borderlines Set 1 to cut the edges on the paper. The inspiration for the journaling on this came from one of those emails you get from your friends asking to answer and forward to others.

Used my Cricut to cut the title and journaling blocks.

Hope these Spring colored pages inspire you to get out your paper and make some of your own.

Vinyl

It's no secret that I am quickly becoming a huge fan of vinyl products. I have ventured into the "wall words" business and have made several custom installations. If anyone would ever want a custom vinyl project designed and cut for interior application, I am available for freelance projects. I also can make custom car decals for groups and school sports.

I also frequently use vinyl to make my own "custom" designed stickers for scrapbooking  and craft projects. The teacher's names on the above lunchboxes are an example of this. I love to use Vinyl with my Cricut because it is much thinner than paper and therefore, much easier to cut intircate shapes. A tip for readers though, because it is so thin you do not want to try to place the sticker like you would a normal one. I suggest using the "transfer tape" method. See a great YouTube video by here Above Rubies Studio. It is super easy and the plus side it that you take take your stickers right of the mat in one piece and apply to your project. No worries about letters not being straight or correctly spaced.

For those who use a Cricut I have found these setting work best for me when cutting Vinyl. You don't want to cut through the backing, just the vinyl on top.
Blade 2
Speed 1
Pressure 2

Silhouette has come out with some really cool new vinyl products that I cannot wait to try.

Fuzzy Vinyl! I'm not so sure I would use this on an interior project because of dust collection. I'm going to use it to make fuzzy stickers and shapes. Couldn't you just see my monkey cut file cut from the brown fuzzy? You can also purchase this at TwoPeas.

Heat Transfer Vinyl also from Silhouette. They have both smooth and flocked in many colors. I'm going to make some tshirts for my little guys with the flocked. This looks so much easier than the Yudo machine from Provo!

Another great product for interior walls is Chalkboard Vinyl. I purchased mine from ebay. I plan to make a wall graphic with mine to write imporant dates and info for the family each week. We are still remodeling our kitchen and family room, so the project will have to wait. I will post a picture when we are done.

I purchase my regular vinyl from SignWarehouse when I need a roll or from Vinyl Outlet when I only need a sheet or two. you can purchase transfer tape from either source. If you are only using vinyl for small applications, you can also use delicate blue painters tape from a hardware store.

Anyone else have any great vinyl products, sources or ideas they love?

3.08.2010

Banners!

Today was my turn to post at the Mosh Posh Blog! I shared my love for all things related to banners...

Do you love those little Jenni Bowlin Banner stickers? I do too! When I used them on my pages, I felt they needed a little mat or border to help them pop off the background.

I made a quick little triangle shape to cut on my Cricut so I wouldn't have to handcut and they would all be uniform in size. It made putting these banner accents together so much easier!

Here are the downloads for you to try too. Just make sure not to resize the SVG or GSD when you open so that they are the correct size (.7W x 1.12H) for framing the stickers. You will have to resize the DXF, just make sure to keep the aspect ratio the same.

Free Friday #4 and a "fix"

Let me start off by saying I made a little boo boo. I have been using SCAL for months with no problems. I just jumped on the Make the Cut scene. When I save my files out of Illustrator, they automatically include a "crop mark" area. SCAL ignores the crop mark line, so I never realized there was an issue. MTC thinks my crop marks are in the way and turns them into a funny little box with circles. I didn't know this! Thanks to blog reader Connie for helping find my mistake. I now know how to avoid this little problem - future files will not have this funny little box. If you do open a SVG in MTC and get the box, you can ungroup the shape and simply delete the box and circles.

I did go back and fix my files. You will have to download them again if you want to avoid the funny box. If you have a Silhouette or use SCAL you can ignore everything I just said. :)

Now that we have that business out of the way...
Here is your free file for Friday. We just finished wrestling season and now the boys will be starting soccer in a few weeks. Here is a soccer ball file I created to use on pages and for making into car decal out of vinyl.

Don't forget to watch HSN on Saturday from 6-7am or 5-6pm for the new Straight from the Nest Cricut Cartridge and other 3Birds products!

Hope everyone has a great weekend. See you back here on Monday. I will have new Mosh Posh March pages to share and a little bonus SVG/GSD download for those who are fans of the Jenni Bowlin Banner Stickers.

Right now I would love to see something for Girl Scouts. And I mean the logos and such - which may not be possible/allowed. Also, maybe cute and trendy koala bear. A friend of mine is having a baby shower for her sister, who loves koalas and we had a hard time finding a koala cut file that was cute enough for a baby shower. In fact, baby shower themes might be nice too. Not just diapers and rattles, but themes that match the way paper plates and napkins do! Things you could use for invitations AND table decorations. Ok, there's my wish-list, hope I win!
March 2, 2010 8:30 AM

Kay - shoot me an email with your home address so I can get your prize out to you.

Thank you to everyone for their wonderful suggestion on die cuts. It gives me a lot to think about. Keep those ideas coming, I love your input. Don't forget to come back Friday for another free Die Cut file.

CK again

YahoOO! CK surprised me again today and put my page about Mr Monopoly on their blog. It's so funny to go there to read, scroll down and WHAT? That's my little kiddo.Very ironic that it was posted on Emmitt's birthday. My littlest guy turned six today. He lost his first tooth last night too. Too cute!

See you tomorrow for the prize winner announcement!

Work In Progress March

See. I told you I still make things. Here are my four pages for Work In Progress this month. Although the paper and chipboard was Cosmo Cricket "Material Girl" themed, I worked it right into my usual boy pages. This is probably my #1 kit Trish has put together in the past three years. Loved working with all of it. If you haven't ordered one yet - go here before they are gone!

I used Glimmer Mist on the first three pages to alter the color of the chipboards and paper doilies. Snuggle and School Friends use some of new SVG border files that will be available at TwoPeas on Tuesday!

PS Come back tomorrow for the giveaway I promised!
